Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said that safe, voluntary and sustainable repatriation is the only solution to put an end to the Rohingya crisis.
Abdul Momen said this while delivering the keynote speech at the “High-Level meeting on Rohingya Refugees” arranged by UNHCR in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday, said a press release here on Wednesday.
Momen urged the international community’s meaningful engagement in Rakhine State to improve the situation there and to boost humanitarian support for the Rohingyas staying in Bangladesh.
He said the ongoing learning process in Myanmar education curriculum and portable skill development activities for Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char in Bangladesh should complement the repatriation initiatives.
During the meeting, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi held a meeting with Momen.
The foreign minister thanked the UNHCR for its continued humanitarian support for the Rohingyas and sought cooperation to realise the rights and expectations of the Rohingyas to return to Myanmar.
Besides, Grandi mentioned voluntary repatriation as the solution to the Rohingya crisis and assured continued efforts to achieve the objective.
