Covered van sets on fire from BNP’s procession

A covered van was set on fire and three trucks were vandalized during the torch march of BNP leaders and activists in support of the hartal at Fatulla in Narayanganj. At that time 15 to 20 cocktails were exploded causing panic in the area.

The incident took place on Dhaka-Munshiganj road in Volail area of Fatulla on Thursday night (November 30).

The police and locals said that around 8:00 p.m. Fatulla thana BNP, Chhatra Dal, Yuva Dal and Swachhasevak Dal took out a torch procession in support of the hartal. It was led by Rasel Mahmud, member secretary of Fatulla thana Swachhasevak Dal. A covered van was vandalized and set on fire by activists chanting slogans in support of the strike. 15/20 cocktail explosions occur. At the same time, they vandalized three trucks including an oil truck and tried to set them on fire.

After receiving the information, Fatulla police reached the spot and arrested Russell Mahmud, the member secretary of thana Swachhasevak Dal. However, the other torchbearers escaped.

Confirming the fact of the incident, Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noore Azam Mia told that BNP people tried to vandalize three trucks along with the torch procession on the Dhaka-Munshiganj road and set them on fire. When the police reached the spot and chased them, they fled. However, Rasel Mahmud, member secretary of Fatulla thana Swachhasevak Dal, was arrested. Legal action is under process in this incident.
