The first consignment of uranium, the nuclear fuel for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, reached destination in Pabna under Army protection.
Nuclear Security and Physical Protection System Cell (NSPC) of Bangladesh Army led by its Chief Coordinator Brigadier General Irfanul Islam Khan left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka with uranium carrying vehicle at 5:00am and reached Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at 1:15pm, said a press release.
Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Aleksey Likhachev will hand over the fuel officially to the project authority in the Rooppur on October 5.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to virtually join the function.
