Election Commission issued notification on June 3

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld a High Court verdict that declared legal demarcating constituencies of Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim and former minister Anwar Hossain Manju in Pirojpur.

An Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order on Monday.

Senior lawyers MK Rahman and Sayeed Ahmed Raza appeared for the petitioner.

According to the Election Commission notification issued on June 3, Indurkani upazila has been added to Pirojpur-1 constituency from Pirojpur-2.

From the Pirojpur-1, Nesarabad upazila has been added to the Pirojpur-2.

As a result, Pirojpur Sadar, Nazirpur and Indurkani upazilas are now on the border of the Pirojpur-1 constituency.

Meanwhile, Kawkhali, Bhandaria, and Nesarabad upazilas will be included in the Pirojpur-2 constituency.

Jatiya Party Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju is unhappy with the inclusion of Nesarabad instead of Indurkani upazila.

Abu Sayeed Miah, a resident of Kawkhali in Pirojpur, and Md Mahfuzur Rahman, a resident of Bhandaria municipality, filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of redrawing the boundaries of Pirojpur-1 and Pirojpur-2 constituencies.
