Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday asked the authorities concerned to reduce the import duty on edible oil, sugar, date, and rice to keep their prices affordable during Ramadan.
The prime minister came up with the directive at the weekly cabinet meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain told reporters at the secretariat.
He said the National Board of Revenue (NBR) would check the extent of duty reduction.
The prime minister heard from the cabinet members about steps taken to curb the commodity prices, Mahbub added.
