More than 5 lakh expired vehicles on roads: BRTA chairman

by tbhdesk

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder said that more than 5 lakh expired vehicles are running on the roads.

BRTA chairman came up with the information at a press conference held at his office on Tuesday afternoon marking the National Safe Roads Day.

Nur Mohammad Mazumder said, “Expired vehicles running on the roads could be more or less than the given number. However, we cannot tag a car unfit or expired based on its colour.”
BRTA chairman said, “Awareness is needed to make the road safe. We need to build a social movement for it. If we do not do this, the implementation of safe roads will be a big challenge for us.”

He also said, “We have enforcement weaknesses, because BRTA does not have enough magistrates. So how do we ensure enforcement?”
