Metro Rail to operate from 8am to 8pm starting May 31

The weekly day off will be shifted to Friday from Tuesday

The Dhaka Metro Rail will run for 12 hours from 8am to 8pm six days a week from May 31.

The announcement was made by MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) on Thursday.

The revised schedule aims to cater to the needs of commuters more effectively. During the designated peak hours from 8am to 11am, trains will arrive at metro stations every 10 minutes in both directions.

From 11am to 3pm, which is considered the off-peak hours due to lower passenger pressure, trains will depart from stations every 15 minutes.

The hours between 3pm to 6pm will again be classified as peak hours, while the period from 6pm to 8pm will be considered off-peak hours.

Currently, the metro rail is operating from 8am to 2pm.

Additionally, the weekly day off will be shifted to Friday from Tuesday as well.

Explaining the rationale behind the day off change, Siddique mentioned that the metro rail currently undergoes major maintenance, requiring a complete shutdown for a day. To accommodate this, the weekly holiday has been shifted to Friday after discussions with commuters.

Furthermore, it has been confirmed that metro rail services will also be suspended during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival.

These adjustments aim to improve the efficiency and convenience of Dhaka’s metro rail system, ensuring a smooth and reliable commuting experience for passengers, said the DMTC managing director.
