Bhanga gets facelift to welcome PM Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to open the new train service on Dhaka-Bhanga route through Padma Bridge on Tuesday and to welcome the premier on this great occasion, local Awami League in Bhanga has chalked out a number of programs.

The local people are also ready to welcome the PM after almost six years.

On the occasion, the entrances to Bhanga and the main roads have been decorated with arches and banners. The sidewalks got a facelift as well with colorful posters and flags.

The premier is scheduled to address a rally at the Dr Kazi Abu Yusuf Stadium after inaugurating the rail line.

According to the project details, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will cross the Padma Bridge by a special train as the special train will arrive at Bhanga in Faridpur from Mawa Railway Station.

PM Sheikh Hasina is also scheduled to speak at a press conference while in Bhanga.

To welcome the PM, local authorities have erected a large stage on the stadium ground. The entire area has been decorated with colorful papers and flags, banners and festoons. Roads have been renovated and widened.

Local resident Sohag Hossain said: “Residents of Bhanga are excited and jubilant about welcoming the PM. The occasion has turned into a festival. People are waiting to see Sheikh Hasina.”

“People’s lives have started to change since the inauguration of Padma Bridge. With the opening of the rail line, the PM will further boost the local economy. Therefore, we are waiting to welcome her,” he added.

SM Habibir Rahman, upazila chairman, said: “The preparation to welcome the PM is completed. The occasion is of joy for the local people. We hope the rally ground will be full to the brim.”

The local authorities have taken all out security measures in and around the rally venue and the areas the PM is scheduled to visit.

Bangladesh Railway is constructing the 172km-long new rail tracks from Dhaka to Jashore under Padma Bridge Rail Link Project as its 82km part connecting Dhaka and Bhanga will be opened on Wednesday, while the remaining portion connecting Jashore is likely to be launched in June next year, it said.

Dhaka-Bhanga rail service via Padma Bridge is set to be inaugurated one year and two months after opening the landmark Padma Bridge in June last year.

On September 7, the trial run of a special train on the Dhaka-Bhanga route through the Padma Bridge was completed.

Earlier, Bangladesh Railway ran a trial train from Bhanga to Mawa end of Padma Bridge on April 4 after the completion of the stone less railway line on the Padma Bridge.
