Within a short time of returning from Sri Lanka after an 11-day ‘vacation’, Peter Haas, the US ambassador to Dhaka, has gone on at least a week’s vacation.

He is scheduled to return to work in Dhaka at the end of next week.

Diplomatic sources have confirmed that US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas was out of Dhaka during the Christmas holidays. However, sources declined to say where he went.

Earlier, Mr. Haas was involved in various issues of internal politics of Bangladesh. He went to Sri Lanka just as the election schedule was announced. He was not heard to talk about political issues again.

According to airport sources, Peter Haas left Dhaka on Vistara Air flight UK-184 on Friday afternoon, which flight was destined for New Delhi, the capital of India.

Earlier, Peter Haas held pre-scheduled talks with Foreign Secretary Masoud Bin Momen at the State Guest House Padma on Thursday afternoon. British High Commissioner in Dhaka Sarah Cook met the Foreign Secretary before the US Ambassador to Padma.

According to a diplomatic source in New Delhi, Peter Haas will spend a holiday in the country with his family. But he will not stay in Delhi for more than a couple of days.

According to sources, the US diplomat will spend most of the holiday in Goa, an Indian seaside tourist city.

Incidentally, US Ambassador Eric Garcetti, posted in New Delhi, visited Goa a month ago.
