BNP Vice Chairman Shahjahan Omar joins AL to take part in election

BNP Vice Chairman Shahjahan Omar has joined Awami League. Informing about his resignation from the party, he said that he has been nominated by the ruling Awami League to contest from the Jhalkathi-1 seat in the next parliamentary elections.

He made this announcement at a press conference in Kawran Bazar in the capital on Thursday evening.

Farhana Yasmin, Assistant Returning Officer of Rajapur Upazila of Jhalkathi, said that Shahjahan Omar has submitted nomination papers online from Awami League in Jhalkathi-1 constituency.

Earlier, the current Member of Parliament BH Harun also submitted the nomination papers of the ruling party.

Shahjahan Omar was arrested in the case of setting fire to a bus in Dhaka’s Newmarket area. He was released on bail on Wednesday.

Former army officer Shahjahan Omar was awarded the title of Vir Uttam for his bravery in the liberation war. He is one of the founding members of BNP. During the two terms of the BNP government, he served as the state minister of three different ministries at different times.
