Film actress Mahiya Mahi regained her candidature in the 12th National Assembly elections as an independent candidate in Rajshahi-1 (Tanor-Godagari) constituency after her cancellation.
In the appeal hearing at the Election Commission (EC) on Monday afternoon, the EC said Mahi’s nomination paper was valid.
Actress Mahiya Mahi collected the party nomination form as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League from Chapainawabganj-2 constituency in the 12th National Parliament Election this year. But she did not get nomination from that seat. Later she announced to contest the election from Rajshahi-1 as an independent candidate.
For that reason, Mahi submitted nomination papers with supporting signatures of 1 percent voters in the constituency. Her candidature was canceled by the returning officer on the complaint of discrepancy in signature. Later, the film star appealed to the EC against the decision and regained her candidature.
