The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is going to start selling onions to some 13 lakh cardholders in the capital this week.

Speaking to the Daily Sun, spokesperson of TCB Humayun Kabir said initially, they (TCB) will start selling onions at a subsidized rate in the capital this week and then across the country.

Each cardholder will get two kilograms of onion (Indian) per month from the TCB sales center, while one crore cardholders will get the onion gradually across the country, he said.
The TCB has given a proposal to the Ministry of Commerce to fix the onion price at Tk 30-35 per kilogram. But it has not been finalized yet, added Humayun Kabir.

It may be mentioned that the retail price of local onions increased to Tk 100 per kilogram and that of Indian onions to Tk 70–75 per kilogram.
