PM Hasina’s public meeting for Bangabandhu Tunnel inauguration begins

The public gathering, organized to celebrate the inauguration of South Asia’s first Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, has officially commenced.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered her address as the chief guest during the event.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, she unveiled commemorative postage tickets, souvenir seats, seals, and Tk50 notes at a public gathering at 1pm.

The rally commenced at 9am on Saturday at the KEPZ ground in Anwara upazila in Chittagong.

Subsequently, at 10am, the invited guests took their seats.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the public meeting at around 12:30pm. During the event, she will unveil the inaugural plaques for various development projects, including the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, and lay the foundation stones for other development initiatives.

Following the conclusion of the public meeting at 2pm, she will return to the Patenga Naval Academy through the tunnel and depart for Dhaka via helicopter at 2:15pm.

In the meantime, a multitude of people from different parts of the Chittagong division have gathered at the KEPZ ground since dawn to attend the public meeting. The atmosphere is festive in the entire Karnaphuli and Anwara regions in anticipation of the prime minister’s address.

Leaders and activists are making their way to the public meeting by marching along the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar road and various regional routes.

These leaders and activists are arriving on foot, as well as in pickup vans, trucks, and buses, donning red-green T-shirts and caps.

Representatives from various political wings, including Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Swechasebak League, Mohila Awami League, Jubo Mohila League, and Sramik League, from different police stations, wards, and unions, are in attendance at the inauguration ceremony.

Motahar Hossain Chowdhury, the president of the South District Awami League, presided over the event, while Mofizur Rahman, the general secretary, moderated the public meeting and featured speeches from local leaders.
