GCC elections: Counting underway after voting ends peacefully

The vote counting is underway after polling ended peacefully in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Thursday.

According to media report, no untoward situation or clash was reported in any polling centre.

Voters flocked to the centres to exercise your franchise as polls began at 8:00 am and continued till 4 pm without any break.

Polls in GCC held using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in all centres.

Ruling Awami League pick Azmat Ullah and independent Zaida Khatun are vying for mayoral post.

Zaida Khatun is mother of Gazipur City former mayor Jahangir Alam whose candidacy was scrapped for bankruptcy.

Poll symbol of Azmat Ullah is party’s stereotype “boat” while that of Zahida “table clock.”

Meanwhile, as per the unofficial result of one centre, Azmat Ullah got 213 votes while Zaida Khatun bagged 532 votes.
