Bangabandhu Parishad Acting President Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and its General Secretary Professor ABM Faroque in a joint statement today said eminent nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr MA Wazed Miah didn’t even took any unfair advantage from his wife.

They issued the statement on the occasion of Dr MA Wazed Miah’s 14th death anniversary to be observed tomorrow.

The academicians said Wazed Miah was very much politically conscious but he never interfered in his wife’s politics or in running the government.

“MA Wazed Miah never took any personal benefit from his wife. Even he never tried to extend his tenure as the chairman at Atomic Energy Commission by influencing the premier after the end of his normal term at the commission, though many people requested him to do so,” they said.
They said even the prime minister also never tried directly or indirectly to give such advantage to her husband which is a rare example in the history of Bangladesh.

Wazed Miah secured first class and first position in M.Sc. examination at the Department of Physics of Dhaka University in 1962, they said.
Apart from being a very meritorious student, he was very much politically conscious, they said.
From Chhatra League, Wazed Miah was elected vice-president of Fazlul Huq Hall Students’ Union for 1961-62 academic year.

He was also arrested in the movement against heinous Education Commission report in 1962, the academicians mentioned.

His many research papers, which were published in different local and international scientific journals, got accolades at the international arena, they said.

Wazed Miah devoted his entire life to scientific research, he said.

He authored some famous research-oriented books on physics for university level researchers.

Until his death, he had a dream that one day Bangladesh would perfectly use nuclear energy for the people’s welfare, they said.

He was very much enthusiastic and hopeful about the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project, the academicians said.

On behalf of Bangabandhu Parishad, Prof Arefin Siddique and Prof ABM Faroque paid glowing tributes to the memories of Dr MA Wazed Miah and prayed for his eternal peace.
