Despite being silent for a long time in the field of politics, former mayor of Chattogram City Corporation, Mohammad Manjur Alam, became active around the National Assembly elections. He has announced that he will be elected as an independent candidate from Chattogram-10 (Halisahar-Pahartali-Khulshi) constituency in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections.

He confirmed this on Monday evening, according to the Prothom Alo, a Dhaka based newspaper. Awami League wanted to be nominated in the last election but did not collect the party form this time.

He told that he is hopeful of winning even though he did not elect under any party banner. He said that he will collect the nomination papers from the returning officer’s office on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Mohammad Manjur Alam was elected as an independent candidate from this constituency in the 9th National Assembly elections held in 2008 and was defeated by Awami League candidate Afsarul Amin. He failed to seek the nomination of Awami League in the 11th National Parliament election held in 2018. However, he did not re-elect that year.
