Film actress Mahia Mahi has collected nomination form for the parliamentary elections as an independent candidate from Rajshahi-1 (Tanor-Godagari) constituency.
She collected the nomination form from the Assistant Returning Officer’s office at Tanore, rajshahi on Monday. According to the National Identity Card, her name is Sharmin Akhtar Nipa Mahia.
Earlier, the actress sought party nomination for Chapainawabganj-2 seat from Awami League. Although she did not get the party’s nomination there, she decides to fight the election as an independent candidate in Rajshahi-1 seat.
Her maternal grand’s house in Tanor Upazila belongs to this constituency. Here, Awami League has nominated former state minister for industries Omar Farooq Chowdhury as the party candidate.
When asked, Mahia Mahi said, “As a worker of Awami League, it is my responsibility to conduct competitive elections.” The more candidates there are, the more voters will come to the center. I am running for a competitive election so that the world can see. I hope the voters of the area will be with me.”
