Cattle markets in Khulna city and nine upazilas of the district are humming with customers.

People from both the industrial city and adjacent areas are rushing to cattle markets to purchase their sacrificial animals as only one day is left for the Eid.

Mohammad Limon Haque, a seller from Narail, said he brought 10 oxen to the Zoragate cattle market for sale. Three of them have been sold at over Tk 1,50,000.
“I am very pleased with the management system, especially for installing CC TV cameras at the cattle market, forming medical teams,” he said, adding that no untoward incidents happened here as police patrolled round the clock.

Suvo Khan, a principal officer of Sonali Bank, said he came to the Zoragate cattle market as the availability of sacrificial animals here is more than in other cattle markets and the price is comparatively less than other cattle markets.

Besides, the safety and security system is excellent, he added.

Apart from this, Khulna Additional District Livestock Officer Ranjita Chakraborty said the District Livestock Department has launched an app called ‘Online Korbanir Hat’ for the convenience of buyers and farmers.

So far, more than one and a half hundred animals have been sold worth around Tk one crore, he said, adding that every day new cows are added to the app and the sale volume is more than the expectation.

According to the Livestock Office, the demand for sacrificial animals in the Khulna division this year stands at 8,28,998 heads of cattle, but this year, farmers of the division reared 11,82,998 sacrificial animals targeting Eid-ul-Azha.
